I think you are all familiar with the pistons mod. Later on, Notch added a reskinned piston to Minecraft. I can think of a few more mods that should become part of the game in future updates.
1) The Aether-The Aether is an amazing mod. Truly. And I think Minecraft needs sort of an anti-Nether.
2) Console Commands in Single Player-These would be extremely useful.
3) Armor Stands and Shelves-A couple of Risugami's mods. They'd be great for storage or just Aesthetic value.
4) A Seed That Generates Biomes In Biospheres-I saw a downloadable seed for this. A biosphere is like a big, hollow sphere with a glass dome for the top, with a biome in the middle. A seed for this would be extremely cool.
5) Vertical Redstone-I saw a mod for this a while ago. Needless to day, it would be very useful.
6) Light Sensors-I don't know if you can actively calibrate them, but they can be nice for automatic lights for your house or something. Another Risugami mod.
7) Recipe Book-Yet ANOTHER Risugami mod. If you can craft it, it'll show you how to make all the items in the game. Also, a book of information on objects in Minecraft, like the one in the Aether mod, would be nice.
8) Built-In Mod Support-Sort of like a built in Modloader/AudioMod. Also, this is a little off topic, but adding a folder called "Mods" just like the one for "Texture Packs" where you can just drag the mod in and it'll work would be nice. It would save trouble and lessen the risk of a ruined game.
Post here if you can think of any other mods that could be incorporated in the game and have it still maintain the vanilla feel.

I AGREE WITH YOU ON ALL OF THESE, Especially the lights, and the vertical redstone, and armor stands and shelves
1. I hate the aether, it lags like s*#t sometimes, and its buggy.
2. Yes but only in the upcoming creative mode, otherwise more people would cheat.
3. Good idea.
4. Biospheres suck, they break everything D: Also seeds arent "Manmade" they are the starting "point" for the random number generator.
5. Really want that, it would make redstone stuff really compact.
6. I never heard of this mod, but it sounds really nice.
7. No, recipe book is kinda cheating for minecraft newbs.
8. Thats coming already.
I agree on all points except the aether doesn't lag for me. It just makes all the overworld items about as useful as a golden hoe five minutes after getting there.
