I figure, if the bedrock is grouped into plates, they can move slowly (1 block every week?), resulting in earthquakes, where sand would fall and the dirt would be seperated, or where they overlap and the blocks get pushed up into a mountain. That way, minecraft would have new AND premade mountain ranges, as well as canyons. Going further, any lava pushed into a mountain would make it volcanic, something many people want. If a block like dynamite was in the ground, and it gets pushed into a volcanic mountain, it would blast the top off, and lava would leak out. And one last thing; so people don't find an abyss leading right past bedrock, there could be a layer of lava after it, followed by still bedrock. And all of this could be done by some variables and a little scripting.

Kickstarter for what could be the game I'm looking forwards to more than any other:
It's smart thinking but it's just too much hazard for the game, honestly. And if you say "oh no, no it's not!" then this event should take place like a block every two weeks. You'd be surprised how fast minecraft goes. Though I can't say about volcanoes what I said about tornadoes,"Unlikely on a tropical(ish) island, or any smaller island at all". This would actually be a realistic thing, for a few islands. With that being said, there should be a certain seed code, just three consecutive numbers that mean this island is on a fault line, then, and only then would there POSSIBLY be a volcano.
And all of this could be done by some variables and a little scripting.
Ok, it's quite obvious you have never coded any real thing in your life. I'm not an expert on coding, but you don't just throw in variables and scripts and mix them all together. It's programming, not making a stew. Due to the way the Minecraft engine is done, I am 90% this would be nigh on impossble. Blocks can't move. Sand, Blocks pushed by Pistons? It converts them to an entity, moves them, and converts them back. In other words, this wouldn't work at all as you thought. Also is the already discussed is that this is bad idea to begin with. Most people don't want random volcanos appearing all over their world, and quite possibly ruining their creations.

May the force be without you.
