The idea is simple, if you drop an item in the water, if you die and your items explode into the water or if you drown and you die in the water; all items will float up to the surface and will follow the water current at the top.
Right now you can sorta manipulate the water current and deepness to get the items to float, but if your in a wide ocean, and you drop an item, it will sink to the bottom. So, instead of sinking to the bottom, it will stay at the surface of the water. The point of this is to make it easier to find and get your items that were lost in the water.
However, I'm aware that some people may argue that this would remove the "punishment" of drowning in water and water diving would become easier and it may ruin some concepts. So, to compromise with this, perhaps the items will only float if the water is 1-5 blocks deep. If it is 6 or more blocks deep, the items will sink to the bottom and act like it does now.
Or maybe certain Items float? Like sponge or Dirt but not stone or Stone tools. Wood tools will saddles will gold will etc. About half float and half don't...

Yea, that would work. I just want it to be easier to find your stuff. Or...maybe items floating wouldn't last as long? Usually dropped items stay there for 5 minutes, then disappear. Maybe items floating would only stay there for 3 minutes?

I think it would make more sense for the items to float if they were X blocks from the surface, rather than the depth of the water itself being a factor.

Im sure wood tools would float if you die in water but if you have a minecart in your inventory, im pretty sure its not gonna float. :laugh.gif:
