From what I heard that food won't heal like it used to instead it'll some sort of hot.
Could there still instant heal item? Like a some kind of potions you can make with mushrooms, seeds, gold, restonedust, wheat, ect? Or perhaps some kind of medical wrap or something! Its not gunna be very good being down in a cave where and your half dead and you have to wait for your hp to trickle back up.
Heh, I don't know, my friend!
Btw, Redstone Dust?
What made you come up with that?
Well I was just brainstorming I mean you got a game that has floating blocks and trees that dont fall! lol But yes maybe not redstone but slime for like the better healing potions. (you know smlimes are quite rare) That would probably call for a slime dungeons so players could make little mob grinders to help them along. Ofcourse since slime only appear very deep in the world these dungeons should and probably would be very very rare. (thats if you play the game legitly)
I personally don't like what Notch is going to do with food but meh, it's his game.
EDIT: Food does heal just not dierectly like before which I really don't like.
Thats why i'm suggesting a instant healing item that heals variant amount of health. Depending on level of the potion. And they could be multi use. So that way you don't have ot carry so much in your inventory. Lets say about 3 shots per pot that heals relitivly a good amount of health.

Maybe the potion could be a way to heal directly. Have them moderately expensive, maybe cactus, shears, and bowl(?). That would give you a potion that heals three hearts directly. They are non-stackable(duh).
EDIT: Eating more than three in the space of three minutes has no effect, for balancing.

That was the idea lol. But i was thinking more like vials that you can craft from glass to hold the potion and then you can start adding ingrediants to a bucket or whatever to craft it with. And what you put in it would varie in healing. Like adding rare ingredants would make the potion better while adding common and easy to find ingredants would be a weaker potion.

The writing was subpar and I'm sleepy. I kinda didn't fully comprehend the OP.

A little balancing would be needed other wise the food hot wouldnt really matter much. Only Maybe have a 30 second lock out. If you try ot drink a potion before the 30 second lock out you'd only get healed half or something.
Adding a bit of difficulty is always a plus; as long as it's in a way that's balanced and fair. As is, the instant-health nature of MC through the various different items is a bit of a turn-off. I'm sure it'll be far better when multiple item tiers happen.
Quick Recovery - These have a HoT implementation over a few seconds.
Types are rarity/difficulty-in-crafting based:
2 hearts over 2 seconds - cooked fish (1 heal per second)
3 hearts over 2 seconds - cooked porkchop (1 heal per second 1 heart instant)

10 hearts over 5 seconds - golden apple - (2 heal per second)
Slow Recovery - These have a HoT implementation over a long period of time. These are your "inactive regeneration" items.
Types are rarity/difficulty-in-crafting based:
5 hearts over 60 seconds - red mushroom (1/2 heart heal every 6 seconds)
10 hearts over 60 seconds - brown mushroom (1/2 heart heal every 3 seconds)
15 hearts over 150 seconds - cereal (wheat/milk/bowl) or (milk/wheat/bowl) (1/2 heart every 5 seconds)
