There's this amazing game called Dwarf Fortress which was a predecessor to minecraft. One of the most hated loved things about dwarf fortress is it's excessive hatred of the player.
Now I'm not suggesting to make minecraft a hardcore game. but I'm suggesting that we bring one of these epic aspects to the hard mode at least.
Now what every dwarf fortress player will do when they see something like this.
Cethutha MurkGills the forgotten beast has appeared! It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered alligator. It has wings and it has a gaunt appearance. Its jade feathers are downy. Beware its poisonous gas!
Is to either.
a.) Fall onto the ground and cry.
or
b.) Arm all of their dwarves with adamantine diamond and wait.
Making this be only on hard difficulty would pretty much eliminate option a (if not then you shouldn't be playing hard.)
Now onto under what conditions they would spawn!
It would have 3 classifications.
Nature
Water
Sky
(the size of these making it difficult to make an underground beast)
If it was a Sky beast then it would only spawn on either high mountains or would fly over the landscape until landed near your base. And with the new height additions in 1.8 I mean REALLY high mountains.
If it was a nature beast then it would spawn in forests and upon the announcement A giant tree would spawn in the center of your largest forest biome and it would spawn at the top of that tree.
And if it was a water beast then obviously it would spawn in the water and walk to your base.
These wouldn't spawn right when you get into your world it would spawn after a preset time in game or after you collected a certain amount of items ( 50 diamonds or something along those lines.)
Now on to the reason why you would even attempt to take down one of these horrible beasts. Well like with anything the answer is a simple one... 1337 GEARZ.
For a Forest monster I'd say they'd drop around 16 of a naturaly generated item (Log, Leaves, Mushrooms, etc.), and on top of that would drop a unique item (any ideas?)
A Sky monster would drop more of the unique item and one random iron tool.
And a water monster would drop even more of a unique item and 1 random diamond tool.
Oh and the spawn rarity would be,
49.5% Nature
33% Air
16.5% Water
Tell me what you think and any ideas you have including suggestions for megabeasts.
did you edit it to say something after i said that? or was my computer just messed up so i saw only "There's this amazing game called Dwarf Fortress which was a predecessor to minecraft. One of the most hated loved things about dwarf fortress is it's excessive hatred of the player." ???!!!
