So, i was thinking to myself: Minecraft needs some mere types of food, even in 1.8 they add different types of meat, that all still seems to be a little bland, and as they say variety is the spice of life.
So i suggest this:
Stews ( I think this has already been suggested, but this is just a part of the idea)
first of all, we need fillable bowls, we can fill them with water or milk, then we craft it with the ingredients we want.
So far I have thought of a few ideas:
*epmty bowls should be filled with water
The Meat (Pork, or Fish) Stew: or
The Meat and Mushroom Stew:
Egg Drop Soup:
These are still uncooked though, and must first be placed in a furnace before being able to be eaten. ( same will go to the regular mushroom stew)
Meat stews will heal 5 hearts, Egg soup 4 hearts Meat and Mushroom 6 hearts, and regular stew will heal as much as it always does.
Pros:
you will only need one type of mushroom to make a stew.
Cons:
None come to mind.
And now for candies (toffee actually):
Toffee will heal half a heart, but will give certain effects that depend on what color it is:
But first, we must make the syrup:
again, empty bowls should be filled with water.
Once you have the syrup, add dye to it to make a colored syrup like so: :
*you can use any dye,(Bonemeal, gray dye and anything lightened by white like pink or cyan cannot be used). Mushroom Stew signifies syrup.
Then you have to put the colored syrup in the furnace to cook it. each bowl makes 3 toffee of the color and leaves a bowl.
The following colors have the FF effects:
Red: Attracts all Hostile Mobs to you for 1.5 minutes
Blue: Repels Hostile Mobs for 2 minutes
Yellow: Attracts Passives for 3 minutes
Green: Makes all arrows you fire fully charged for 20 seconds.
Orange: Food meter does not decrease for a certain period (Unsure due to uncertainties in how fast the food meter depletes)
Purple: Directly heals 1.5 health
Black: Poison, with 1 heart damage every second for 5 seconds.
You can also use toffee as mob bait (Black is best for this). Mods up to 5 blocks away from the toffee will come towards it, to bait, right-click on the block you want to place. Also, Toffee can be placed in stacks of 16 per color and can be stored in a candy bag to save space. candy bags are crafted as such:
Pros:
Adds a variety of buffs to gameplay.
Cons:
Can be abused. But there is a way around that, you can only eat one toffee at a time.
So, what do you think?
EDIT LOG:
-9/4/2011 > Changed Toffee Effects to be compatible with new 1.8 mechanics. Also added the candy bag.
I am liking the culinary aspect of this, and the variety of uses for bowls.
But I am a little dubious about the status effects.
To boost attack, defense and speed, all you need to do is acquire better weapons and armor, and sprint.
I feel like the toffees could still have a use, though.
Now that food only indirectly boosts your health, perhaps toffees could serve as a direct health boost?
Or they could be stacked to a greater extent than other foods, like the current cookies.

Anyways, I updated the Toffee Effect to make more sense with 1.8 and also added the candy bag.
