IF YOU AREN'T GOING TO READ ALL OF THIS POST, PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE. THIS IS A SERIOUS IDEA, AND I DON'T WANT PEOPLE MISREADING IT OR GETTING THE WRONG IDEA.
This game needs a tutorial. Regardless of the basic achievements, it can be pretty confusing to new players. A simple enclosed area that would be installed as a default world entitled "Tutorial" would do nicely. Simple things like basic crafting patterns, how to survive the night, and how to get food would be great additions.
Secondly, when the game first starts for a new player, it "senses" if their skin is custom or not. A few extra tools and an ingame editor would be added. Things such as "eyes" or "eyebrows" would appear a slight bit bulging out, or indented, depending on the feature. As another example, the player would look more tired the lower their hp is. If you have half a heart, for example, your character might look like they just finished wrestling a bull upside down in zero gravity. Saggy shoulders, tired look, sad, ect. Emotions. Full hp you would half a confident/happy face, broad shoulders, ect.
Thirdly, please impliment some ideas from the "Better Than Wolves" mod into the game. The thing such as functioning saws, watermills, windmills, and other things work great and should be added to vanilla minecraft, as they add much more possibility to building and architectural design.
Lastly, this would go along with the adventure update, classes and/or abilities. Things such as Warrior, Archer, and Magician, and possibly some sort of "Survivor", which would get bonuses to mob drops, increased crop growth rates, and other things of that sort. would make great additions. Each class would have a set number of abilities, that would be unlocked with levels, as Notch said that he is implimenting them.
Each class would have its own set abilities, which would be upgraded or configured. An example of a default mage ability would be a fireball, of a "ball" of some other magical source. The fireball would travel foreward and set a fire that lasts 3 seconds to wherever it lands, but the flame is unable to catch the environment on fire. There would be a cooldown of course. It could be configured to make the ball bigger, smaller, or to make the flame last longer, or shorter, depending on your taste. Warriors would get an ability for example that (when faling) you would use to take no fall damage and leave a small crater on impact with your landing surface, while hurting all mobs around the zone. It could be configured to make the ground damage more or less, and could also be configured to make mobs take more or less damage. So potentially you have an awesome way to spook your friends and make an awesome entry, or to kill all mobs around your impact zone in a crater, like a meteor.
I think that the classes could be implimented to the vanilla game, but ONLY IF they are not over or under powered. Anything else would take away the fun. The classes would also be COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. Such as a "hardcore" mode where you get no bonuses.
Please, if you disagree with any of these ideas, give a reason. I want to know what people think and why they think it.
you can be everything in minecraft. magic dosent exist and never will.
tutorial, there's a page for tutorials on the forums...
Some people leave games if they don't get the hang of it immediatly.
A friend of mine found a game that looked very good, but had a hard time getting used to it in the beginning of it, so he stopped playing it.
Magic could be implimented. It IS the ADVENTURE update. Who knows what kind of power sources we could find inside the ruins and wreckages.
And also, if you can be everything, why can't you be a wizard yet?

when you find a good game and you dont want to even learn how to play and just throw it away, well that's just stupid.
and besides, even IF there will be magic, you have too 'pick magician' to play with it? seriously...
