To correspond with DiamondMiner's (and many other people's) dream of meteors falling from the sky to crash into the world idea, how about include a sort of space ore. For higher lighted stones or torches that are bizarre colors like light blue or dark purple. Or floating blocks, like gravitite. But probably, just make it float 15 blocks up, like redstone only trails 15 blocks. And you can reset them, by right clicking. You can use this "space stone" to send different minecarts upwards onto mountains or straight walls of dirt. Maybe smelt it into bars, and make weapons, or armor, making you jump higher, or make you feel like you were in a low gravity area like the moon. I think meteors should contain space ore, but, the precious resource that it is, meteors should happen VERY VERY rarely, say; once every 100 days on average, just so it won't be super common, like gravitite from the Aether, and you will feel extremely successful for mining space ore.
Absolutely. But maybe, since rarer than diamond by all means... should be stronger eh? Almost instant block destruction, like in classic. And maybe it will have space dust, which has a 10 percent chance to drop with the ore, and trail it on the ground to make blocks it is trailed ontm float, like space stone.
I don't think anything should ever surpass diamonds, they're supposed to be the iconic tools and armor. Just make a bunch of the ore spawn in each meteor strike to make it "more common." That, or make multiple of them drop for every block you destroy (like redstone and lapis lazuli).

Maybe space ore can also do that, but also do the things that I suggested it do. Making higher and brighter light torches or stone things (brighter than glowstone) with the ore or dust, and floating.
Things can't be brighter than glowstone. The light system only goes up to 15.
I would suggest that meteors are made out of moonstone. It would glow faintly (maybe slightly more than redstone torches). It might be used to build a portal to the Aether, and possibly have other uses.
It could also contain "space ore" like you said, but I think it would be better named as "lunium". Lunium would only come imbedded in moonstone. It might be possible to confuse mobs with it somehow. There might also be other uses for lunium, such as in block form it would sink until it hits a block, and when activated by redstone would float up 8 meters, also being able to carry up to 4 blocks above it. It would stop at obsidian or a stack of 5 or more blocks. This could be used for large floating platforms ( a layer of lunium blocks, then a layer of redstone wire, then blocks of the players choice. The platform would be next to a tower that would have torches every 8 blocks, so the platform stays activated all the way up. The tower would also have redstone going down that would turn off the torches, so the platform would sink all the way down after it reached the top.
Lord Penguin, I like the confuse mobs idea. Maybe you can make "stun powder" with space powder to stun enemies. Just do a little spritz on a mob if it gets too close to you. And if you want animal loot, just use a spritz on them, they will finally say ****ING still. One batch of stun powder from space powder contains four spritz's so you have to use when completely sure you have to, you can use this for boss fights in the new update. Mobs can get stunned for 30 seconds.

It makes sense. It happens in real life. It could be used to bridge the gap between iron and diamond strengths.

The problem being that diamond would be more common than meteoric iron, unless meteors were everywhere, which they shouldn't be.
