Flares could be used in Multiplayer or Singleplayer.
MULTIPLAYER -- Flares could be used for if your lost in singleplayer or Multiplayer. In Multiplayer, flares could be used for being far away from your friends. You use flares by shooting them of by not aiming towards a block in front of you or in reach. You shoot them of out in the open. They provide little light as well. Shooting of in caves or in your house... Well... You've only got you to blame. Flares explode 200 feet in the air. Even if you can't hear then, the sounds range is 500 blocks. It's ok, shooting it off won't be very loud.
SINGLEPLAYER -- Shooting flares in the air in singleplayer is useless. Placing them on the ground however will work. They will sit down with some provided light around three blocks (other than the one its siting on) and will have a red dot on them that indicates which way you placed them. This MIGHT point to where your house is in which way you put it (This also works in multiplayer).
I guess you should get it now. Also I added a poll on if you like this idea.
The poll is worthless. All you need is yes and no. Also, please use search. Flares are a semi common suggestion.

The Major Edit is, I deleted the poll because half of the answers were the last option because it had "Trololo" in it, and it wasn't much of a good idea. I might add the poll soon, but I am not going to now. SO NOW YOU HAVE THE TOPIC TO FOCUS ON :biggrin.gif:

Use the rules maybe?
You must provide to a topic of the same suggestion.
And the answers to me are no, no, and... no.
A flare gun feels too advanced to me. I mean, ancient chinese firework type things might fit, but a flare... gun?
The part you said firework type flare, thats what I meant the entire time.
