In vanilla Minecraft, getting up to the top of high places can be a real pain. Especially if the random generation creates blocks up higher than you can jump, making it insanely annoying to reach. So I was thinking about making a grapple of some sort, and here is what i came up with.
You build the hook like this (I'm a noob on this forums so I don't know how to insert the little block picture things, so I will do it in letters.)
I A I
A I A
I A I
Where I is an Iron Ingot, and A is an Arrow. After making the hook, you simply attach string like so.
H 0 0
0 S 0
0 0 S
Where H is the Hook, 0 is nothing, and S is String. Now I was thinking you could either shoot it out of a bow, or attach it to a fishing pole. I am more fond of the bow idea.
I think the grapple should have about the same durability as the fishing hook, and should only be able to grab onto non-gravity-affected-items. So it couldn't grab onto sand or gravel, nor could it grab on to glass, as nothing else is able to. It shouldn't be able to grab onto place-able items like torches and signs.
I sincerely hope this gets at least considered, as I'm very tired of the old "jump-place" and the "dig-some-stairs-into-the-side-of-the-mountain-'cause-I-wanna-get-to-the-top-and-move-my-base-up-there-'cause-creepers-blew-up-my-house-real-bad", techniques.
Suggested before, but still an ok idea. Only problem would be getting caught on terrain. The hook would only be viable on sheer cliff faces, but on a sloping hill, you would just be caught on a block before you made it to the top.
too high technology for minecraft... like graple hook must quit somehow out of the thing which is holding it in...so where must be a spring of some kind...
sorry for my shitty english...
and sorry i didn't get the idea before but do you really mean that it will like catch a stone if you'll just throw it on the stone block??
