Note: Last two paragraphs state the potential usefulness if you absolutely can't read the whole thing. >.<
I think that there might be a use for a strengthened form of pressure plate that will only depress when a player or mobs stands on it. Item drops and empty minecarts will not trigger it. There could be several crafting methods for a new pressure plate. Edit: I figured it out. But my point is different. It just needs to work for reinforced detector rails only. I didn't realize only wood pressure plates let items depress.
This first recipe would be a waste of an item space. I have amended it.
The first one would be adding a layer of iron on top of the stone/wood (maybe only stone) in the crafting grid when crafting a pressure plate.
This recipe would have to only affect detector rails. That was my only real interest in this idea. The crafting recipe would have to be as such.
= detector rail
Not important to the idea now. Feel free to skip.
The next would be a pressure plate using a ore material instead of stone or wood in the crafting recipe. Iron would make an iron pressure plate. Gold would make a gold pressure player. Diamond would make a diamond pressure plate. (Some people use these blocks for floors. Give us some selection too!!) It's only two ingots or diamonds.
I know that part has been suggested before. Maybe that kind of extension of the blocks would require them to be like any other pressure plate. My first idea would better replicate a reinforced plate.
My defense of this idea:
Iron is heavier than stone and material made from iron is used to reinforce things. A reinforced pressure plate could hold up against a small drops, but depress to a heavy object such as a Minecraft player or mob or maybe even a falling Minecart if Notch were really adventurous at coding such an idea.
Its usefulness is limited, but I think it just might be worth adding to the game. It allows minecart signals to only trigger when a player is in a Minecart. One example use for this is for Cart Stations. You can set a cart up to go into a continuous loop around a track. You have a mechanism setup to make the cart stop at a station setup with a booster rail when you hit a button. Once a player is in a Minecart and going around the same track, instead of going into a continuous loop around the track it will roll over reinforced detector rails that allow the cart to stop at each station while the player is in the cart.
Okay so from the first couple of lines i can see that it's so mobs and humans only work for it but that's what just a stone pressure plate does so i don't get the point ?
I'm pretty sure the Better Than Wolves mod had something like that (or at least only the player can trigger the pressure plate). Obsidian pressure plates I think it was...
