I think it would be cool if buildings that were never used slowly degraded. Like the longer the player was more than 100 blocks away, the worse they got. They could degrade further and further but whenever the player comes back they get fixed up.
It would be cool to have old, run down houses and stuff to fix up I think.
So you leave and they degrade over time, and you come back and they get fixed?
Is there a point to this or are you just trying to cause lag?

Maybe it would work... If Notch implemented a new tool, the hammer, it would repair blocks, but the catch to crafting it is that the worse the hammer the less it can fix blocks. for example, I have a wood house, 3 of the blocks are 10% from breaking, if I use my wooden hammer, it will repair to 30% (in theory) and no more no matter how many times you hit it. If I use my stone hammer it will repair to 50%, and if I use my iron hammer it will repair to 70%, and my diamond will be 100%.
