My idea is to make it so that passive mobs do not despawn unless they enter a light level low enough to spawn hostile mobs. they will then despawn after a random amount of time.
this would prevent having to search caves for cows and chickens.
It would also create another need to light up any player-made farms.
Not to mention it would allow the passive mobs to respawn back on the surface even if the mob limit has been reached.
