Alright, so I think there should be a player made block, a light beam, like a flashlight. What you'd have to do is get glass, redstone dust, and a trigger, like a pressure plate or button etc. You simply go to crafting and place a row of glass in the middle with a redstone torchs on the middle row sides, like a plus sign. Than it would give you a piece of glass kinda blurry. From there you have. To put redstone wire directly behind it, and step on the trigger. The light is activated, shining let's say 30 blocks. I'd like to be able to swivel it but notch has said no to moving light. You'd have to make a mine cart with the glass in it, btu nvm that. Any ideas?
But I like the idea of a light 'beam'. Often I've wanted some ambient lighting in ares that are too tall for ceiling glowstone and I dislike using torches on the walls as they seem a bit sloppy. Or a shaft of light that doesn't require a hole dug to the surface and depend on daylight.
