Now this is not my idea, its my friends so just getin that outa the way.
So basically 1 lightstone dust and one stick make a torch. But this torch would be used as a lantern. Now i know for a fact that dynamic lighting is possible in minecraft, and its very possible to have client side dynamic lighting, cuz ive seen it work and even tried it. So dont give me "this wont work on servers it would cause too much lag". And i know minecraft tries to be as compatible with older computers as possible but client side dynamic lighting is a must.
He already said that he isn't going to add dynamic lighting. No matter how many reasons you give, and examples of it in-game, it's not going to change the fact that he said no.
Also, OP much? Each lightstone block gives you up to 4 dust. That gives you either 4 torches, or 16 torches. Since you are probably not going to use it for lighting your area (the only difference between the torch and actual torches is 1 light level. Coal is easier to get than lightstone), you are probably only going to use it for exploring.
So, for going into the nether once, and getting one dust, you basically don't need those torches for the rest of your game.
That's pretty OP.

Unknown to death, Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything

Im not so sure about dynamic lighting. But i wish there was a way to light up / mob proof some of my buildings without covering them in ugly fiery torches. Sometimes i swear my building is actually on fire its got so many torches.
