I know there have been a bunch of Lapis suggestions, and also a bunch of Redstone ideas. But Nothing I've seen does quite what I'm suggesting.
So, as we know, Redstone wires have to have at least a block in between them or else it circuits and dies etc etc.
And a of now Lapis has little to no use to most players. Now, I believe Notch is thinking of something, since it's so rare, but why not a secondary electricity line?
Now, I know people are saying, "That's just redstone clone pointless" Okay. But, How about you can only put lapis next to redstone, and not by itself. That way you can have multiple power lines without a circuit?
However, my second idea, since that seems much easier to fix with the "Directional redstone" (basically you right click it until it turns the direction you want):
How about Lapis can be redstone but used underwater only? It could make pretty cool contraptions, and well...actually put some use to the thing.
I could see it as a possible use for another redstone although making waterproof isn't a good enough feature. Something more useful would need to be added

Go check out some of my suggestions on my profile, in the about me tab!
I dont really see it. It seems like your just cutting your redstone with lapis to make it last longer, which is of debatable use as redstone is quite common. The rotational effect seems like something that could just be applied to vanilla redstone.
As for underwater, why? It would be so much easier (and look better) to just bury the redstone cable.
It doesn't seem like something useful enough to justify finding lapis in the first place.

Last I checked, lapis is not capable of carrying a current. Historically, it's been used as a pigment for dyes and for decorative uses. I suggest either using gold for expanding redstone functionality (as it's an excellent conductor of electricity), and/or adding in some way of insulating redstone in order to make wires that could travel vertically/underwater/have more options for placement.
If lapis could be used for wiring, perhaps you could put a lapis wire next to a redstone wire without it linking the two. It would make for more compact designs in redstone contraptions.
I like this idea! The only thing I would change is have Lapiz Lazuli ONLY be able to act as redstone underwater? Like the aquatic version of redstone not being able to be placed on land?

I really like that idea, but what if it could always be placed, but only transmitted power if they were underwater. This would allow a redstone signal to be sent an unlimited distance vertically (albeit only downwards) by having a piston-controlled waterfall above a lapis torch, followed by some lapis wire and then continuing to the rest of the circuit wired in typical redstone. So yeah. I'd say that makes lapis' relative rarity rather worth it.
Last time I checked, Minecraft isn't realistic or historically accurate. Stop bringing real-world logic into a freaking game.
Last time I checked, dust get's ruined by water.
And don't pull that "it's a video game so it's not real life" bull ****.
Even minecraft has it's standards when it comes to physics. Floating blocks is one, and water breaking redstone dust is another.
Also, the lapis will be creating a bunch of air pockets when used underwater, which will look quite weird, and it would be much better to bury it.

Curse PremiumI wasn't talking about the underwater part. I agree that it's stupid.
I was talking about how the guy said lapis lazuli isn't electrically conductive.
There is no good reason to make one a redundant form of another.
You see, this idea makes as much sense as introducing redstone as an alternate red dye.
