Does it bother anyone else that Clay is harder to find than Diamond in some servers?
Or how about that I've played minecraft for a few months now and not once have I ever seen an apple in one of my own games?
I've had entire sets of diamond armor and several sets of tools (Including a hoe, even though I had no idea how to farm) But I've never built a house of brick. What I mean to say, is Clay should not be harder to find than Diamonds. It doesn't matter that Clay drops 4 per block, or has limited uses (Unless you have the Clay Soldiers mod that is), for the sake of realistic ratios Clay should be found on basically every shore from 0-4 blocks deep. The rarity of Diamonds could stay the same (it seems alright to me now.) but the fact that I saw someone posting a comment about a block counter reporting that there were 4 times as much Diamond as there was Clay seriously bothered me. (If I find the comment, I will post it. Believe me I have been searching.)
On top of that I feel like it would be fair to have apples pop out of destroyed leaf blocks half as frequent as a sapling would considering Apples are pretty damn common in real life.
I think clay should be able to be found underground, and apples from trees does sound like a good idea, but maybe with a 10% drop rate from leaves, and thats still pretty high.
While it is true that clay is technically rarer than diamonds, it is actually easier to find due to it being easy to see on the surface and in larger clumps. I actually have a very nice brick house on one of my worlds atm, and it only took me a day to find all the clay I needed with tons left over.
That being said, I wouldn't mind it being more common. Same with apples (which I think are currently impossible to get legit).

Apples having their own trees would be fine. It could attract peaceful mobs too (because they would want to eat the apples.)
I also have problems with the fact that I don't think mobs are attracted to water like they are to light, but that's off topic.
