So, I've been thinking lately, and I've come to a conclusion. Although Minecraft is a great game, there are a few things that are missing that, if implemented, could turn this game from great to MEGA-AWESOME!
No, I'm not talking about new ores, weapons, or dimensions. I'm talking about simple visual effects and other aesthetics that would make this game more complete.
The Problem
There are a few things about how you see the world of minecraft around you, and, more importantly, how you see yourself, that just irk me. These missing elements give the game an incomplete feel to it. Here's a list of a few of these things:
When you respawn, or even wake up, you seems to just pop into existence. My thread on this When you die, you seem to just disappear from the world. Alliecraft's thread on this Mobs, spiders especially, look downright awkward when they move (Spiders just floating up walls and wiggling they're legs, and zombies just randomly flying into the air, are two instances). When you look down, you don't see yourself. You see straight through the place where you would be. To use flint and steel, you just kind of flick it at the ground, and a giant wall of flame appears.
The Solution(To the latter of the 4 problems)
In this thread, I will be focusing on the latter of the four problems. When you look down at the ground, you don't see yourself. In fact, you see straight through where your body would be.
Whenever I look at the ground, I sometimes get the feeling that I'm just a floating head-to-arm combination. It's actually kind of funny, actually, looking down and seeing blocks that are behind me.
I propose that when you look down, you actually see yourself. I mean, you can see it in third-person, why not in first?
So, there you go. Easy as pie.
TL;DR

To go to third person press F5, while holding f5 press F1 (I think, to view yourself from the front)
I figured this out pushing buttons :3
Another usefull tip, you can't fall off edges while sneaking!!! :biggrin.gif: so sneak up to the edge and you can build on the side with ease :smile.gif:
But yea i think you should be able to see your legs when looking down.
(not a fat joke) :wink.gif: lol
I think I wouldn't want to see my body when I'm looking down. It'll get in the way of seeing what's below me.
A valid point. In fact, I am often grateful that I can't see myself when I'm playing Vechs Super Hostile maps, so I can see all around me. But at the end of the day, it makes the game look incomplete.

They took out the f1 thing LONG time ago.

I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to death, Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works
Its sad... I just realized i've never seen my legs in minecraft. But yeah seeing your legs should be added. At least it would make the game look more polished.
Though truthfully this is one of those back burner projects.
Honestly this is one of the more hotly debated topics in games like this or RPGs. I personally think seeing my body when looking down doesn't feel right in a game. I have no idea why, although I bet it has to do with how awkward most animations look from 1st person, as well as potential clipping issues.
Is it just me, or is like 95% of the OP completely unrelated to the topic of the post? The topic being: Why can't I see my body when I look down?

Ok then. Its because the creeper blew your legs off. Happy? :biggrin.gif:
Although I partially agree with this post... especially about the spiders part moving up the walls in the way they do... I don't particularly see the other portions important enough to change. Its a building block game... which means you need as much visibility when it comes to placing your blocks as possible. Rarely have I met any minecrafter who plays the game in 3rd person perspective. This feature I would agree is underdeveloped... but also, just isn't very helpful when it comes to building. Your head will always be in the way of what you can visibly see.
When it comes down to whether or not you have legs when playing in first person... I would still play Minecraft despite this missing element. I don't see it as being important enough to change. But it would give a more realistic game play.
As far as viewing your front, I've always thought there needed to be a better way to see how you look besides your inventory pane. For this reason I thought that mirrors would be a great addition to minecraft. If there was a way to implement it, (We're trying to do this on the Nether Expansion Mod,) people would love that.
