Basically, here's the idea: Different trees give different wood, but why not different planks? The idea is, only certain kinds of planks can build different items. I know of 3 kinds of Minecraft wood: Oak, Birch and Pine. Sadly, I am not a genius on wood properties, so I can't exactly say what would make sense in real life. For Minecraft, though. I think that Oak trees ('Normal' trees) could be used for tools (Sword, Pick, Shovel, Hoe, Axe, Fishing Rod) and basic items (torches, crafting table, sticks) because that's the main reason you cut down trees on the first day. Birch could be used for more advanced items, like Doors, Pressure Plates, Trapdoors, Boats... I've thought about what to use Pine for, and I think Pine could be another tier. It would be right above stone, because it is more rare than stone, but not as good as iron, considering that its still wood. Well, those are my ideas. Thanks for reading.

Suggested, rejected, and rather pointless. You wouldn't be able to stack them, and trees are not more rare than other trees, you're just looking in the wrong biomes.

I don't know about you, but I see a lot more Oak trees than Pine trees... And, why wouldn't you be able to stack the planks?

Exactly. Your proposal makes no sense, if the purpose was to inject some real life in the game; if it was to add some unneeded complexity, shame on you.

I proposed this to give a use for other kinds of wood, other than just decoration. Also, whats wrong with complexity? I like complex things.

I would only feel some desire for different kinds of planks if new and interesting-looking wood were added, like mahogany or redwood. Then it would be cool. And by the way, oak is the strongest wood of the available types, pine being the weakest. I think they should have different cutting times and maybe different burning properties, but only being good for certain tools would be counterintuitive and not fun.
Thanks for all the feedback, guys. and Double, I thought about different burning times too. But then I just remembered you could just turn them into charcoal.

Curse PremiumThanks! And yeah, as I said, I don't really know anything about real life wood properties.
