As you obviously know, Minecraft has an infinitely expanding world, randomly generated for curious players to adventure and frolic to their gaming heart’s content. Minecraft’s massive open spaces and seemingly limitless possibilities are great, but players begin to hold themselves back. As you know, when a player in Minecraft dies, ALL of their items in their inventory and hot bar are dropped. While this mechanic encourages players to think wisely, it also cuts down on their adventurous experiences. Leaving players with certain items, which they need to carry along, such as a diamond pickaxe, yet do not like to carry along for fear of losing these prized items. Too often players fall victim to losing items, sometimes permanently because of in game deterrents such as lava.
The way I think players can enjoy more of an adventurous experience in this sandbox world is with priority items. With priority items, players have the choice to select a small number of items perhaps 3-5, highlighted with a silhouette and have them set as Items which take priority over others. This means that’s when a player dies all is lost with the exception of the 3-5 Items selected as a priority. Several players enjoy the calm relaxed atmosphere in Minecraft, and losing your prized items is an ingredient in ‘rage quit’, more that it is in fun casual relaxation.
I think this feature would make Minecraft feel more accessible, and generally give players more confidence to undertake the daring acts Minecraft demands of them. Thoughts?
I sent this as an email to notch, doubt it was read though :tongue.gif:

I'd say about 4 Priority Items should be used. Maybe the Priority Items could be starred instead of silhouetted to make it more visible. The star would also portray the item more as "valuable".
I'd have to say no,
If your cutting a mine then bring along your nice diamond pick and get the most out of it.
Imo, if your going caving or even surface exploring where you might get caught out at night only take iron, It's not rare at all and it gets the job done nicely. If you have a diamond pick then you should definitely have a few Iron ones laying around
Same goes for you armour, it can be expensive to make, even iron, but if your exploring the surface you can just wear leather, you'll find enough cows to stock on up on some during your travels and if your armour takes a little punishment you only need to punch a tree and make a table so you can put the leather to good use.
But caving, Iron, a fair amount of food and a-lot of caution works for me.
I always take a diamond sword with me, mining or exploring, its only 2 diamond and is really not that great a loss if a unrecoverable death happens.
Other than that I can't think of anything else really that would matter if It got lost
To me the Survival fear part of the game would be lost.
