It would be easier to make, rather than trying to look for coal in a mine (which could result in mobs killing you).
So, the idea of the scarecrow is that it scares mobs away in a 20x20 radius.
However, I'm starting to debate whether I should use a pumpkin, or a wood block. Since it is supposed to be easier, I'm thinking a wood block, but that would be too easy...
So I have no idea what to make for the head. ANYWAYS:
= wood/pumpkin/whatever it should be
The Crafting Recipe is:
OKAY OKAY, I know, I hear your teeny weeny whiny voices:
"BUT TORCHES NEED COAL YOU DUMB***!"
CHARCOAL~
"BUT YOU CAN USE CHARCOAL TO MAKE TORCHES!"
*sigh*
That's not the point.
Anyways, the idea is that they look nice too.
Even if they might be too overpowered... I'm just saying. It would be cool to have my friend the Scarecrow standing around.
And the torches produce a bit of light (redstone torch), and it is scary so the monsters won't spawn.
I also agree with the 2 above. The first thing I thought of was "So, if you place a scarecrow near a dungeon, the spawner is disabled and the monsters there flee? Sounds really overpowered."

No more overpowered than pressing escape, switching to peaceful and destroying the monster spawner...
I like this idea! It should definitely have a pumpkin head though; wood doesn't make sense. I agree with Nilrem-- it's cheaper to just turn off easy to peaceful, so why waste a scarecrow for that?

There used to be a page on the wiki, but IDK what happened to it. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find it under trivia.
Originally, it was made with wheat, a pumpkin, and some sticks. He hasn't decided what's it's use is yet, so let him work it out.

I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to death, Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works

GOT IT?
OKAY!
(It also prevents mobs from spawning)

Doing that is just abusing the difficulties

Well if you play on peaceful, then what would the point of a scarecrow be? :tongue.gif:
Also, Caduceus, that's really interesting trivia! I didn't know that :smile.gif:
Skye said they also keep out regular mobs :biggrin.gif:
Oh, that's nice! I didn't see that in the first post. . . but that'd would be nice.
I like this idea more now :smile.gif: Still not sold on hostile mobs being repelled, but I like this suggestion more now :smile.gif:
