I've been addicted to Minecraft lately but the one thing that keeps annoying me to no end is that I have no way to repair my resource heavy armor like iron and diamond armor. It takes quite a bit of resources to make a full set and just running around and taking fall damage can ruin your armor set over time. Not only that but sometimes I grow attached to a sword if I have been carrying around for a long period of time and slaying many tough enemies with you and would love a way to repair it to use it again.
Now obviously it wouldn't be a good design to be able to repair armor and weapons without some sort of cost. One idea I had for a repair system would be take your helmet/breastplate/etc, put it on your crafting bench, and then add a block of whatever resource it is made of in one of the empty spaces and then craft it. This would repair a portion of the item's health so you might have to do it multiple times to fully repair something that's almost broken. In the end it would still be a lot cheaper than crafting a new set of armor which imo is a very good thing.
Alternatively you could just make a new item which is a "repair kit" of some sort that would be rare and can only be found, not crafted.

Do you actually mean a block ( ) or just 1 of the item ( )?

Warning: It is always a possibility this user is talking out of his ass.
We were, in the ancient days, given a set of rules by magical being known as "Moderators" and are expected to follow them. Among these special rules, is that no idea having already been suggested can be suggested again. To aid us in following this rule we have been given a magical relic of great power known as the Search Bar. Using this one can, with ease, determine if his suggestion follows the rules. I recommend using this. Or better yet, looking 5 topics up and seeing this: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/175894-hammers-anvils-and-repairable-items/
