This isn't a long thread, it can't be. It's a simple suggestion, but it would change the game drastically.
Currently, biomes are just...stupid. They're small patches of land with some weather on them. So small, in faction, if you don't place your house in the right place it might snow on one side and rain on the other.
Ridiculous.
Right next to my snow biome is a....desert biome. The desert biomed is about 50 blocks wide before it hits a forest biome. What is that? When I see it, I don't think "desert", I think nothing. Just some blocks that look out of place.
Biomes need to be changed.
Maybe it could be like this: the more northern you get, the more tundra and woodland biomes there are. In the middle would be all the deserts and other things, and down south would be more tundra and woodland. Sure, it would seperate the minecraft world by long distances, but what ever happened to adventure? Minecraft is boring as it is, if you desperately need snow go north! As night passes you'll have to watch your back for adventure! Who cares if it takes a few minecraft days? It gives the game a harder feel and a less ridiculous setting.
Before I say anything, allow me to clarify; Notch has already stated that he's going to fix biomes. How he will be modifying them, I have no idea.
That said, I agree. It would be very cool if the map was divided up more realistically. I always wanted oceans, rather than lakes and ponds. I always wanted deserts, rather than patches of sand.
On the other hand, it would also ruin the current "feel" of Minecraft's biomes. I think I'd lean more towards the support of the current blotches of biomes, but rather than sudden transitions, there would be more realistic transitions.
I do think biomes need to be bigger because in a minecraft day on the right terain I can pass thorugh like 4 biomes
I want it to take DAYS to get otu of biomes and lets have OCEANS not these little lakes that are everywere I want it to be like the earths layout were there are some large oceans with islands and to get around hem you etheir have to swi for a while or go around the long way

Edit: There is also a mod that changes biomes and makes them larger.
