I don't know if this has been suggested before but at first glance I didn't find any similar topics.
Two of the most recurring suggestions I see on these forum are A: Vertical redstone wiring and B: Toggleable light sources.
Riding home in the car today I thought of a fairly easily implemented idea that would bring both of these into minecraft.
Redstone Blocks, act just like redstone, carrying current, but obviously are placed like any other block.
Vertical Redstone Wiring - Simply works by the fact that you can stack the blocks vertically.
Toggleable Light Sources - Just like redstone wires carrying current the block would light up but with a higher light level. When close to the source its light level can be similar to glowstone but slightly lower to keep glowstone a valuable resource. But if far from its source the light level diminishes just like redstone wires, allowing low level lighting for atmospheric purposes.
Crafting - I can see this working many ways but two examples in my mind are A: Like other ore blocks(9 Redstone Dust = 1 Redstone Block) keeps it simi expensive to discourage over use of the lighting effects but too expensive for vertical wires. Or B: If done like glowstone (4 Redstone Dust = 1 Redstone Dust Block) would be subject to gravity but make vertical wiring more inexpensive, though it wouldn't work well as a light source and must be smelted to get Redstone Block (or Redstone Glass Maby) which gives it higher light levels but looses its ability to transmit the current along.
Where the Red Mushrooms are redstone, and the blank space, I've yet to figure out. It could be just another redstone, or Glass, Stone, Glowstone, Torch, Redstone Repeater, I dunno.
I would like that too. You can do a toggle able light source by using pistons to push and pull a block in front of glowstone and use a lever to turn it on and off.
This has been suggested millions of times. Try to search more efficiently. However, it is a good idea, but being able to place redstone vertically would be nicer i think.
