With the new update coming up, I thought that something like this would be rather interesting to see. What is "this" you may be asking, well I am talking about quests! There was once a topic about this, but it was in 2010. here it is. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/26143-quests-and-quest-givers/
I think that Notch has some plans for it, but I thought we could brainstorm some quest formats that fit in Minecraft's world and structure.
The point would be, there are various humans living around the country-side or town that just give out quests in return for rewards (various materials/items).
What type of quests could they give out?
- Give quantity X of item Y to NPC
- Fedex (deliver goods to another NPC)
- Kill quantity X mobs near location
- Plunder dungeon at location X,Y,Z (use in game coords, sign posts, quest dialog or maybe in-game map/compass?)
- Defend NPC until they can complete task X (no idea what the task might be or how it would show, any ideas?)
etc.
This would definitely add some replay value to the game, and especially if you had to compete with/track down another adventure who that npc hired.
Player should also be able to give their own quests! Maybe go into a "Tavern" and talk to an adventurer/unemployed person, or leave the quest with the bar keep too give out if none are there at the moment.
Here are examples of player given quests:
1) Hey, I'll give you a decent payment if you can finish constructing my house.
2) Hey, I'll show you where a dungeon is, if you give me part of your treasure.
3) There's some bandits nearby which are looting nearby houses and businesses, there's a bounty on him!
4) There's a nearby abandoned mine. Its torches have gone out, and it was abandoned when a cave was found, and a group of monsters killed the miners.
5) I need someone to guard my home, I will pay you for your time.
etc.
Even include a barter system perhaps.
In conclusion, I believe that we should be able to take quests from NPC's, and give out quests to npc's. I thank you for reading this, and I hope you consider that possibilities of this.
I checked, and there was old threads about this, I don't want to necro and get yelled at. :sad.gif: jasonwolf briefly touched on quests, but not much.
I like the idea but i don't see how you'd be able to give out quests, it seems like it would have to be really complicated... I'm just saying, the getting quests part seems really good though :smile.gif:

EX. Guard my house. Guard is a command, my is directed at the player who said it, and house would be an area that is set by the player.
I know it would be a stretch, but it would be worth it.
