I think the sky realm should be full of blocks that move magically in a repeated path. This would make moving around in the sky realm possible and fun. As for what you can do with those blocks, I leave that open to discussion but I think it shouldn't be that illustrous, since the blocks will be very common.
Honestly, I think Notch should simply add the Aether to vanilla minecraft and make the Nether as good.
I'm not so sure that would be good. The Aether is a completely different KIND of Minecraft. Gameplay, items, mobs, chunk rendering, and goals of the game all act much different then the main world. It's a very good mod, but I think it should stay that way. I mean, if you go to the Nether, unless you're doing some challenge, you're probably going there to get something and leave, especially since there's not much to do. If he was to release the Aether in vanilla, since there's so much to do there that is still left undone by many players, everyone would hang out there, and only come to the "earth realm" for new, minor updates. Updates would then start focusing on the Aether rather than the "earth realm" to back up player responses. The game then stops being Minecraft and starts being Aethercraft. Think of all the lonely creepers!

- I agree with this. The thing to do is to keep a purpose for going back to the overworld. Like diamonds, redstone and wood?
I also think that Notch hasn't even come close to adding everything for the overworld. Don't forget about all the new blocks he plans to add and hasn't told us about. If he added the Aether to minecraft, I'm sure he would perfect it first.

You can get wood in the Aether, and diamonds would stop having a purpose other than aesthetics (legendary weapons, gravitite and zanite). That means the overworld would become Aether's Nether, i.e you're only going for diamonds and redstone. Until a few updates after 11/11/11 (full release), when the game gets really fleshed out, it would be dwarfed compared to the Aether.
Perhaps the people suggesting the Aether should take one look at all the items added, then decide that the Aether is an overpowered and overrated mod.
We're not saying it's "over powered" or "overrated", we're saying that it is much better than vanilla overworld.
Think about it: in the Aether, it's rarely ever night, you get really fancy gear to put anywhere on you, you can choose to fight, rather than getting randomly attacked by a creeper or zombie, and in the process get better items than you would from the random skeleton or zombie. Why go back to the overworld, apart to get something like redstone?
That kind of thing would make the overworld essentially useless, apart from the starting steps, which means all future development would focus on the Aether due to the player base- at this point in the game's development.
Now, one could argue that if everyone ran Aether as a mod, the same thing would happen. But, most people who start a new world start it just for the Aether, i.e spawn in glowstone, and the Aether is not compatible with all mods, nor is it perfect as far as glitches. It's a damned good mod, and it's a wonderful addition to the game, but if implemented at this point and time, it could ruin the game.
Look back on my previous post. The Nether has little to offer, people don't stay there because there is much more on the overworld, and the overworld is safer. Thus, development leans towards that. The only update I've seen to the Nether is exploding beds and multiplayer support.
Aether has more than the overworld, is safer, and is new and shiny, and therefore would draw the crowd, and people would seldom go back down to the overworld.
Yes... or someone could make another Mod for the Nether just as good as the Aether... like... me... *hint hint
I like the idea of the flying blocks, but I think they would have to be very slow moving and only go back and forth instead of in a "flight-path"...
Good idea. I was thinking it would be cool to have sort of a nexus of blocks, each one going back and forth on its short path, and you would have to hop from floating block to floating block all the way from one sky-island to the next. Kind of like Frogger meets the enchanted staircases at Hogwarts.

(look up aether now)
You referred to a mod and the sky realm has already been planned by Notch, he is just adding on. :sleep.gif:

Not to mention that you have to actually

Aether stuff, while interesting in many cases, is often way too powerful for vanillacraft.

Anyway, this is getting off topic.
