Okay, so many of us know how good flowers look outside of a window. But, the dirt they sit on, not so much. My proposition is this: A flower pot. Crafting recipe: =clay
This makes a flower pot. It is a block. The sides and bottom look like cobblestone, but the top looks like dirt. You can plant flowers or saplings on it, but saplings will not grow. This is simply cosmetic, and serves no purpose but to look nice.
WOOT! MORE SHOOTY STUFF!

Shouldn't those cobblestones be replaced with clay? Makes more sense and gives it more uses.

I like it. Change the cobble to planks and you have a windowbox. The one thing I would change is making so you have to craft it with the flower type in the top middle box.

Rather than be a big square block I'd rather it just be a small element like a flower you can place on any block, rather than just on dirt.
So instead of being a big planter I guess I'd prefer a small pot, which would look good on a wood plank table.
I agree on that one how it would be formed is bassicly the block should be like say the size of a wolfs head pretty small size to most for a flower pot but remember trees aint going on it only flowers. Also This idea could also introduce new items such as Fertalizer-With is An entire crafting table filled with dirt which causes the flower to start to expand and grow a little more.In which thered be recipes for bigger pots for bigger sizes of flowers to the point where you could have one as tall as steve!
Small pOT Recipe
Medium pot recipe
Large Pot recipe
Now onto Little decorative features
An addon to the plants could be if you combine the fertalizer with glowstone and use it on the flower once its in its pot
BTW to put the soil in the pot you must craft it in the table with the soil on top of it
Anyway once the glowstone fertalizer is in the pot with the flower it could have 1 of 2 effects
1-It could cause the flower to just blink in its glow
2-The flower could become a glowstone flower that if you place anywhere then it will bassicly glow and Its blink can cause some mobs that walk by to turn away from the brightness-ONLY works NEAR night and at night
Took me 10 minutes to think this up as an addon to your idea here.
