Hi. This is my very first post so please be patient if I say something stupidly wrong or out of the ordinary, I'd prefer not to get 'mobbed', no pun intended.
My suggestion is simple.
The problem: I like going fast. Really fast. The faster the better. And currently, for my liking, minecarts go too slow.
Solution: Wouldn't it be nice if you could build better minecarts, like you can build better armour, that go faster? Like Gold Minecarts? Maybe even Diamond Minecarts?
I reckon seeing Gold Minecarts zooming around could be pretty cool, and I could finally build that really fast, giant rollercoaster I'm imagining. But that's just my thoughts. Hate me if you want, the suggestion is there. Eat it. Or not.
The reason Minecarts have a maximum speed is because if you go faster than that, the map won't have time to render before you go sailing into the void.
If the top speed of minecarts was increased, it would NOT go flying into the void, everything would work just fine.
Do you have any proof that you would go flying into the void? No? Didn't think so.
On slower computers, you would fly into the void. Have you ever minecarted in one direction for a while? You start to see chunks load at the edge of your sight, right? That's the problem. If you went faster, you could move faster than these chunk could load, and eventually you'd hit the "edge" of where they're loading. With no new land to stay on, you'd fly off of the rails and into the void.
I suppose that chunks could be selectively loaded, so that only chunks with rails would load. It would look ugly, though.
For now, I think that minecart speed should not be increased. Still, not too bad of an idea, OP.

Minecraft would just start to lag, load the chunks, and let you keep moving.
There is NO way to be in an unloaded chunk, again, prove me wrong.
Back to the suggestion:
I like the idea, the faster i can travel across long distances for no real reason, the better traveling across long distances for no real reason will be.

I can't prove it, but I do have some evidence.
Back when I had crappy internet, I tried playing multiplayer on a friend's private server. The problem was that I could only receive about 1 chunk every 30 seconds. I decided to see what would happen if I walked off the edge, and guess what. I fell into the void! There was no damage done, but I fell nonstop until I disconnected and reconnected.
So yes, you do fall into the void, the game starts to glitch out like crazy, and there's extreme lag. Not worth it...
