When big trees were first added, I thought they were cool. They seemed rare, and didn't grow often from saplings. But now big trees are very common and, frankly, they are ugly. So I have 2 ideas that might help with the big tree situation.
Idea 1: make the trunks thicker. 2x2. It hasn't been done with any tree before, but when you look at big trees it seems as though their trunks aren't big enough, doesn't it?
Idea 2: make them rarer. Big trees are okay to have, but I don't like it when I replant a forest that I harvested and all that grows is big trees.
this way big trees will be more rewarding to find and not as ugly to look at.
that would be great, cuz they are annoying to chop down, and ugly. if they were thicker, it wouldnt be so annoying to cut them down, but now the question is, if a sapling grows one, how will the tree grow, the sapling will be on a corner, 3x3 would work, but that would be too big.
hmm good point... maybe if you plant 4 saplings together there is a 50% chance they make a big tree. then you can choose whether there is a possibility for big trees or not.
Why not make the big tree part of the saplings normal growing pattern.. If there is not enough room for the big tree be in, then the big tree would simply be thrown out of the growing process.. if there is enough room then it would all be a question of probability
