I believe the center wool block in the crafting recipe used to make paintings should be changed to paper.
Why? It would make it more realistic as well as give paper more use. It would also make it more useful to have sugarcane farms as currently the only point of a sugarcane farm is for maps and bookshelves.
Some may argue that this would take away from the use for wool and therefore make wool less valuable. But let's face it, wool is like cobblestone, you can get it everywhere (except deserts and oceans). Not to mention wool already has a major use as beds which makes wool practically necessary for survival. Wool also serves as decoration when dyed, and better decoration than bookshelves since you can have it be any color. Beds>Maps and Wool>Bookshelves so therefore Wool>Sugarcane and wool is more common than sugarcane. So why is the more common object more valuable?
I know this is a small fix, but it's small details such as this that can drag down the game needlessly.
And then you could combine a feather and an ink sack to make a quill/pen, and make custom paintings... Also write in books... that would be nice.
That has nothing to do with my suggestion.
Sugar cane can make cake
I forgot about cake. Still, my suggestion stands as cake is highly inefficient. In the time it take me to make cake I can kill 10 or so pigs and get between 0-20 pork.
Unless the painting is actually a tapestry, in which case it makes sense.
I'd think he'd call the paintings tapestries if they were tapestries.
Although I agree paintings would make more sense with paper, if it was so then wool would need another use since it could only craft coloured wool and beds.
I was simplifying what Sugarcane can be used for. What use is paper? To make books. What use are books? To make bookshelves. Than just say bookshelf. What use is sugar? To make cake. Than just say cake.
I think wool has enough use already seeing as a bed is practically necessary.
However, I am concerned that this takes away from shears. It becomes idiotic to waste 2 iron to triple the wool you get when a bed only takes three wool. Unless you're doing some decorative work of course.
It shouldn't take away from shears, my main problem when gathering wool is to get enough white wool for when I do large flooring projects. Also by making shears you guarantee 2-4 wool instead of the one by killing the sheep. It is highly efficient and with how annoyingly rare sheep can be at times, I require shears to get back to my home by sundown with enough wool.
Shears are also used to gain leaves so I find that's a greater use for myself as I'm often trying to create lit gardens so when I look outside at night, it looks more pleasant than normal landscape with torches plonked down anywhere there is dark.
Good points. I'm not the decorative type so I don't think about all that, I'm often content with a hole in a cliff somewhere (in fact, both of my houses are like that). So shears still have plenty of use, as does wool, so my suggestion stands. At least if you're the decorative type, which considering you would need sugarcane to make paintings which would appeal to decorative Minecraft players, it would make sugarcane more balanced for them. For the non decorative type who don't care about either, this affects absolutely nothing.
So it balances things for decorative people and doesn't affect non decorative people. Nice.
