Beds need to be changed, currently they are too simple. Yes, I know some people like Minecraft simple, but what I'm saying would not impede one's ability to build or survive, rather it would make spelunking a little harder.
Alright, you made yourself a log cabin in the middle of a nice forest. But Minecraft is more than that! You decide to pull out some torches, your trusty sword and pick, and go exploring in the nearby caves. Murderous creatures tear you to shreds, so you return to home base. You sleep it off. (5 hearts restored from sleeping in bed.) The next day, you think to yourself, "Wow I can sleep in a bed for free healing! Awesome I will take it everywhere." But a bed, upon being broken, reverts to one wool and 1 plank, making it hard to keep such an amazing device with you all the time.
Also, you can make a pillow from 1 wool which can be taken everywhere. It lets you sleep but doesn't restore any hearts, making it essentially the current bed, useful only for long term exploring. It does not need to be placed, just right click on the block you're standing on while holding it to get some Z's. The downside would be that because it is so uncomfortable, it subtracts 1 from your maximum hearts every time you use it until you max hearts are 5.
I think that nobody would ever use the pillow, you're an idiot if you think that skipping the night and setting your spawn is worth 1 less heart permanently.

Well beds being brought everywhere seems kind of odd. They are easy enough to craft. This would be most useful for people that play hardcore (AKA they vow to delete their world if they die once) but at the same time if you heal from sleeping then theres no reason to farm for food. Just spend a day or two sleeping and staying in your base. Beds are kinda OP as is so yeah it's not a bad idea to have them break into wood and wool when broken. The pillow seems unnecessary though, as a bed is too easy to craft.

Creeper Jockeys, Because Screw Your Sense of Safety
How about a "fancy bed" which is more expensive to craft, heals hearts, and cannot be removed without losing some of the materials put into it? And a bed can't just be placed any time to restore health because mobs attack if it isn't properly protected and only works half the time with a 10 minute delay between each use (while day passes by).

What do you guys think of my idea?
A pillow should be made of wool and feathers, filling the pillow.
