The idea is to have a pump that would filter liquid from point A to point B, in a way similar to a chest minecart.
It would be a long hose leading from the source of the liquid to the intended exit and at about the middle would be a type of compresser looking tank. This could be used to clear water from a cavern or a flooded underground house (from trying to dig up too far.) or for filling a moat or pool with oceanwater. Considering a bucket can carry lava it should be assumed the Water Pump would be able to transfer lava as well.
Now you might be saying "this is what buckets are for" and you're right, but this is more of a larger scale liquid move, designed for bigger projects. It doesn't have to be automatic either. Maybe the compresser in the middle has to be activated to switch the sides of the hose that function.
As for actually crafting this and how long it would be, I don't even have the slightest idea. This is more of a spitball suggestion to see what sticks. :smile.gif:
Didn't you just suggest something like 5 seconds ago about a Dumbwaiter? From what I see, these are both the same usage, just slightly different concept.
Theres a mod that I like a lot, by a very talented modder. http://djoslin.info/finiteliquid.php It makes water act in a more realistic fashion, it can be pumped, and even heated on iron and evaporated. It adds a few other things that really give it a bit of realism too.

but yeah...
I had an idea, the hose being like redstone!
so it's flat, and you can walk over it...
