I find it weird that if I use white, blue, green, any type of wool, I get red cloth for beds. To add a little decoration to Minecraft, maybe have it that whatever color wool you use to make the bed, that's the color the bed should be. Comment if you like the original beds, or if you'd rather these new beds.
Not only already suggested, but not currently possible (at least according to Notch). Wool's color is dependent on it's "damage value". Bed's use the same damage value for determining the placement of the bed like rotation. It is needed because it is a 2 block object. Unless we get another byte of data to work with on each block (which we could really use, savegame size increase be damned), this can't happen.

Why not? There are 4 ways a bed can face and 2 "blocks" in each bed. That is a total of 8 different damage values. If one more color was introduced, there would be no problem (there would be 16 damage values then). If a new block ID was added, there could be 4 different colors. 16 would require 7 new block IDs taken up, so it would be best to just stick with 2 or 4 colors.

It's what Notch said. He also said colored light and moving lights couldn't happen yet, look at the mods for those.

Pipes
Add a pillow to the bed model.. and..
W = wood
numbers = wool
1's color = pillow color
2's color = sheet's color
3's color = bedspread's color
1 2 3
W W W
EDIT
Scratch that, badprenup's right.

So what you're saying is to have 3 different colors for the bed? I like that.
