Zombies are just about the weakest mob in the game, Not in terms of hp,But in methods of attack,When people see a creeper they crap themselves and scream, but when you see a zombie you dont even attack it because its not worth the effort and its not fun. I think it would benefit the game alot if zombies dropped something that you could use, Such as zombies might have items stuck in them, like a zombie with an arrow through his head would drop a arrow etc. Zombie combat could be more interesting if the zombie would grab your and you have to shake the mouse to get him off of you,Or each zombie has a different weak spot that you have to find, or you could hypnotize the zombie with a gold or glowstone pendulum.
Sword skeletons would also be a cool addition to the game, you could crouch to avoid their sword swipes, or attack at the right time to parry\counter his attack, maybe hold a button to block the attack, but blocking without a shield only works 50% of the time.
When you have chickens available, zombie's feathers may not seem very valuable. But in many survival maps, you may have to rely on zombies for feathers. No feathers = no arrows.
I like this idea. It would add atleast a little more fun and it would also add a nice varity instead of the same old enemys. And, because I'm halfway decent at suggesting I'm going to list all the possible things there could be.
-Armour monsters. If you thought creepers were bad, think about getting attacked by 2-3 creepers in armour. Each monster would drop different types of armour that's more powerful depending on the monster. (zombie armour being the weakest, and spiders would drop web armour where you could climb small ways depending on the amount of web armour on but it would also slow you down and add friction.)
-Sword monsters. Same as the armour, except that you swords give a few bonuses. (zombie swords would allow you to control one zombie per 2 uses. While creeper swords would give you like..10 TNT for half of the uses.)
-Item monsters Like the OP mentioned, arrows through monsters and other things. Others: feathers, ores, tools and things like that. (maybe even skeletons could drop bone arrows here and there.)
-Special item monsters. New items which monsters hold that are either useful, for design or just useless, fun items. (monster flags/banners, treasure maps, hangable maps, monster crowns, special resources, etc.)

They could be faster, rarer, tougher and do more damage. Armour!
