I recently started to make a tower in bricks and found out that the game lacked any means of constructing something really big out of clay. So i tought that it would be pretty cool if players could make clay on their own
So i thought that clay still shouldn't be too easy to get so i believe there should be a "making process" to have clay. first of all, players need to craft a mold for the clay, which would work a bit like a furnance, exept that instead of being fueled by wood, coal etc it would be fueled by water. I think that the game should consume the bucket the water used in the making or it would be too easy to mass produce clay. the mold should also work with a set time and only allow a certain number of clay produced per bucket of water used. To start the production you would also have to put a certain number of dirt in the upper part of the mold(same principle as a furnance).
the final result of the production would be one clay(the item not the block), which would allow players to make cook it and make bricks out of it, and to make big constructions out of clay(almost the strongest material) while still having some negative points, like the pretty big production cost and the time needed to make the clay.
Mold recipe: some people will think that the use of a diamond is too much but you also have to remember that brick is the most solid construction block exept obsidian and that you will be able to make an infinite number of clay with the mold after, provided you have the right ressources.
note: the water need to be in a bucket for the recipe, but i didn't find a water bucket emoticon.

There's a few mods out there that allow clay to be made, either by placing gravel in the crafting grid, or cooking it in a furnace. To be honest, I don't know if that's even logical, and I would like the most logical means of attaining clay.
A while back, I read a post in the Suggestions forum about clay being able to be found alongside rivers and such. Of course Minecraft would have to implement rivers into the game, but assuming that eventually did happen, there would be a select few rivers with an abundance of clay on the riverbed.
That, for me, seems like a very logical explanation of finding clay, as there are rivers with an abundance of clay even in the real world.
I do like the idea of making clay easier to obtain, but I don't think it makes logical sense to create it out the other materials available. I would prefer to simply increase the rate of incidence. Also, I wish it were more visually distinct – I like texture packs that give it a reddish color, which is how I think of clay anyway. Right now, it doesn't stand out, which compounds its rarity.
