I am sure that this may not be original, but this topic is interesting to me and I'd like to share it.
Let's face facts. Animals have dumb AIs and currently don't act much like the animals we know here. To be honest these suggestions wouldn't truly effect gameplay and the minecraft experience, but definitely would add realism and a more character to the world around you. Making the land feel alive.
I'll take you to each mob one by one:
SHEEP
Sheep are pretty shy creatures as I myself know them and the most noticeable thing I see in them are not their behavior individually but all together. Sheep minecraft should huddle together like they do in the real world. Their loyalty to that is amazing that they always stay so close to one another and I can see this being very cool in minecraft they way they would wonder somewhat randomly but as a group.
CATTLE/COWS
What's one thing cows are known for if anything? Grazing. They like open space and grass. I would like to see cow in minecraft herding around the new grassy areas that Notch added. Cows just like to graze and they just don't really do that in minecraft.
PIGS
To be honest I don't know much about animal behavior at all and especially pigs I'm weak on. I just imagine that the pigs would wonder around more randomly than other mobs that is they don't like to hang in one place and occasionally role around in the dirt. If You drop dirt or clay or meat they will run over to you as they would with slop.
Such ideas have been suggested before, but... you did a good job here, so I'm not going to chastise you for it. :tongue.gif:
Sheep: I like it. I like it a lot. It would make a ton of sense for them to huddle together, and maybe if you tame a wolf you could use it to herd sheep, making it that sheep would actually flee from a nearby wolf (but of course wolves are faster :tongue.gif:)
Cows: Cows are derpy in real life, so I think having a derpy cow in Minecraft would work well. Just make them stand still most of the time and there ya go! xD
Pigs: Pigs... meh. Personally I think that pigs should just keep the behavior they have because they're like the most basic of the passive mobs. So... yeah.
Good first start, I'd love to see what developments you come up with for the other mobs. :smile.gif:
Right now, Writr, I have no idea what to do with the the other mods. We have skellies, zombies, spiders, creepers and wolves left right? Not counting jockeys.
Zombies are perfect.
Skeletons never really had any true characteristics maybe some one will make something original.
Spiders I think should set up web blocks in an area and hide and wait until you get stuck in them or you brake one of the blocks.
Wolves are pretty nailed down I think ( I LOVE the the animation for drying off). They ar dumb, loyal and will fall off cliffs for you.
Not a half bad idea. Better than seeing random scattered animals everywhere. Since we might be able to farm animals, I also like having the wolves heard sheep. (If we could tell the wolves where to go and the sheep would be scared of it, that would work.)

Just like lemmings.
I dont know exactly what truffles are but i think they are fungi that grows on tree roots, and pigs have a nose for them
