How many times have griefers stolen your gear or items out of a chest you thought was safe? Well there should be a way to prevent it. I propose: PADLOCKS!
Add a recipe for a padlock using iron and redstone that allows you to place a lock on a chest (and possibly doors as well). When you right click the chest the first time the lock comes up with several boxes to input a password. Once set, from then on it won't open until the code has been put in. It should also make the equipped chest indestructible, otherwise it makes the lock pointless.
Like the idea? Throw some rep my way. Any further thoughts? Add some comments!
EDIT: Once a padlock is used, it can't be removed or used again.
If they don't make the block indestructible, then griefers will either take your stuff or just destroy it all together.
If they are indestructible (as you suggested) then griefers put them in your doorways. And lock everyone in spawn.
Fix: Get some not-completely-braindead server admins.

Hypothetical: You read a thread in the Suggestions forum. You suddenly realize you've seen the idea before. Maybe it's a duplicate? No. Maybe it's just you? No. Maybe it's been done already? Very likely: Click here if there's a mod for that.
There just needs to be something like bukkit, but there by default.

This includes plugins. You can't just say, that's what plugins are for, without giving any suggestions/constructive criticism. This is really starting to get annoying.

I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to death, Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons

I'm sure that this has been suggested uncountable times, but it really does need to be implemented, not as a crafting item, but something found on chests in dungeons. And that's if the lock is breakable, or works like an iron door.
instead of crafting just a lock you should craft a lock and key togeter then u use it on a chest or a door and it locks it and gives you a key that you can keep in your invcentory (or put in another chest or somthing)and that key would only work on its matching lock and if u use the key on it again it unlocks it and then u can relock it or put it on another chest or door and if the key is destroyed (like droped in lava or something)then the locked chest becomes unlocked

FYI there apparently is a new rule where informing the OP that "there's a mod for that" is now a warnable offense.
edit: bahh beaten!
Just report the post, don't play police officer.
Ot: I support this.
