What I am proposing is simple- a different type of plank for each type of log.
The Pine/Redwood log would have a plank type reflecting its natural internal color, which is a warmer, redder, darker look.
The Birch log would have a plank type that is lighter and yellower than the regular plank.
The regular log's planks would stay the same.
No, I do not expect this thread to survive. It is too simple for there to be much to discuss. What I do want, though, is for this to place the idea of different planks in your heads, and to please post it on Notch's and Jeb_'s Twitter pages.

Hypothetical: You read a thread in the Suggestions forum. You suddenly realize you've seen the idea before. Maybe it's a duplicate? No. Maybe it's just you? No. Maybe it's been done already? Very likely: Click here if there's a mod for that.
There are several mods that do this, and you probably know this and was saying it should in vanilla, which I totally agree with, also I think the inside log texture should be different for every log type as well
It's one value, the damage value, and quite easy to make. Although space-consuming and annoying that they cannot stack.
You are stating that it is the damage value, and I realize that is how the logs and how colored wool are varied. Different types of planks, however, do not exist.

You know what? I searched. I searched over the mountains, in valleys, in seas, and in caves.
I then realized the reason I wasn't finding anything was because I was searching in Minecraft, where this isn't and definitely should be.
Snappy responses aside, the only result I found had not been posted in for over fifty days and only vaguely touched on this as part of a multipart suggestion, which is against the rules and therefore invalid, seeing as each part of a multipart thread should be posted individually.
See what I did there? I facilitated the proper utilization of the forum rules.

It might get annoying, but it would be awesome for building. :biggrin.gif:
