Wolves are a nice companion to have... They attack things for you and defend you; and you have your own little doggy! But they can be quite bothersome, especially in dangerous places, they can often jump off of cliffs or into fire or lava. Or they can often push you into these things as well as hostile mobs. My suggestion is to fix the wolf AI and pathfinding to give them a bit of intelligence. A few suggestions are to make them aware of players and to make them aware of hazards. And when it comes to steep cliffs they should have the ability to navigate their way safely down. These are just some fixes to wolves to make them enjoyable to have.
Why don't you program a mod if you don't like wolf physics instead of demanding mojang do it for you?
Because... this is place to suggest changes to vanilla? And the OP is asking that Mojang makes the only companion you get in the game (as of now) die a little less often from it's own mistakes?
Both are good reasons why Mojang should do it.
Edit: Something I would like to see is if wolves instinctively get behind you when you hold the LMB down. This prevents them from getting in the way while you mine or dig or whatever.

I am not demanding, I am suggesting and asking, but not demanding. As to why I simply don't mod my game so wolves are more intelligent is this: multiple people do not like the way wolves function at the moment and I am horrible at coding.

Why don't you program your own video games if you want entertainment instead of buying Minecraft?
Wolves that instinctively avoid getting in the way of your tools, can be commanded to follow/sit via whistle, and avoid lava and water would be good.

Hypothetical: You read a thread in the Suggestions forum. You suddenly realize you've seen the idea before. Maybe it's a duplicate? No. Maybe it's just you? No. Maybe it's been done already? Very likely: Click here if there's a mod for that.
