Just posting some ideas and maybe the right person will see them. If you're into making mods, this would be a brillant addition. Also, I'm having a huge mental block (no pun intended) so if you can think of other science type stuff, feel free to add.
(Backstory: I've been reading various blogs about minecraft and apparently there are several teachers/education departments experimenting with the idea of using Minecraft as a teaching tool. I have no clue what their ideas are, target age range, etc... But this is just where these ideas came from... and I like science)
Magnet blocks: Self explanatory. They could vary in strength. Attract or repel objects 2, 3 or 4 blocks away. Ability to repel a magnet over another magnet (2 blocks high?) But IRL, this doesnt work, the magnet would need to push off to one side, maybe fall like sand and land 1 block away from the magnet.. If open area is aroud the magnet, it would do a circle and stick to the bottom of the 'stationary' magnet. I only ellaborate on this to include the possibility of a maglev train... like a minecart rolling down a track. Affected by other blocks (iron)
Electric-Magnet Block: turn on and off with redstone, same abilities from magnet block apply.
Superconductor: notable difference to be able to suspend the magnet over another magnet. Maybe this would be how you build a maglev train?
Magnet patterns:
Motor: (I think I remember hearing that Notch has no intention to overcomplicate the game with engines, guns, etc... but I'm still throwing this idea out there)
Generator: For redstone, sends a signal further down the redstone wire. Uses coal.
Solar Panels: A carfted item, works like a switch, button or pressure plate. Only works when sun is out. Automatically retractable roof as soon as the sun comes up :smile.gif:
Glue substance: If you're using magnets or even the new pistons. You can glue 2 of them together. When a piston is raised, it raises the block next to it that has been glued to it. (unable to glue north to south, pointless anyway) Imagine and entire moving islad over a superconductor circle track.
Lightbulb Block: Like glowstone but only lights up with redstone, generator, etc.
Peaceful block: No monsters spawn within 50 blocks? This would give you the ability to enjoy dark areas like a movie theater or a pitch black maze.
Nothing to do with science, but for God's sake, can we please have the ability to HANG our clocks on the wall?
