Note: This block is suggested with server admins (supposedly getting a creative mode built in with 1.8) and adventure map creators in mind. It does not have a crafting recipe, and must be obtained through admin commands, InvEdit, or MCEdit.
I have come up with a block that I think would be very useful for adventure maps and SMP. I call it the Cue Block. The Cue Block is a block that is only visible to people in Creative Mode. In Creative Mode, the block looks like a simple light red block. It has the same consistency as an air block, meaning you can’t place blocks off of it and you can walk through it. If you are not in Creative Mode, it simply appears to be another Air block. It is technically an entity, so players in Survival can place a block in the space where it is without it disappearing. I don’t know how feasible this is with the amount of data that can be contained within a block but that can be tweaked and changed, as can this idea to fit inside it.
It works very simply. When placed, someone in Creative Mode can right click it and change a few core things about it. It has a few different settings, and a few different things it can do.
Settings:
Detection Radius: How close a player needs to be before it triggers. It has a 360 degree Radius (Settings: 1, 4, 8, 16)
Owner: Set an owner to the block (Just type in a player’s name)
Trigger Type: Set how often the block can be triggered (Settings: Once, Delay, Unlimited)
Note: Once means that it will only work once. Good for Adventure Maps. Delay means it can only be used so often, and is measured in seconds (See below). Unlimited means it will trigger every time the Detection Radius is passed through.
Delay Timer: Only available when the Trigger Type is set to Delay. Sets the Delay. (Settings: 1-1200 Seconds)
Ignore Owner: Changes if the Trigger works on the Owner or not (If one is typed in above).
Options:
Message: Display a message up to 256 Characters. Can use various codes (listed below). Can choose to send the message to the person who triggered the block, the owner, or to everyone.
Spawn: Spawn an Object in specific coordinates (Can be a block or entity)
Move: Moves the person who triggered the block to specific coordinates
It can do only one of these at a time.
Code List:
/o – Inserts the owner’s name into the message, if there is one.
/t – Inserts the player who triggered the block into the message
/x – X Coordinate
/y – Y Coordinate
/z – Z Coordinate
Maybe more to come, need ideas
Example:
ATTENTION /o! /t has entered your secret vault.
“Attention Cooldude143! Stoopidtroll has entered your secret vault.”
Uses:
Automatically keep people out of off limit areas.
Spawn a mob fight, a treasure, or a block to a specific location.
Alert players or admins to specific things happening in a server.
Giving players items without them having to harass mods, good for adventure maps where they can only get X amount of an item.
Many more.
So… how about some feedback?

This is a very good idea. Once, I was griefed while I was in my house, building a new room. Someone snuck in and looted my chest. If I had known, I would have murdered the person who did it.

Thanks. Not only could it tell you who griefed you, it could prevent it by simply moving them out of your area.

Looks good, once I made a house on my friends server and I ran out of wood so I went out to get some Wood, but the tree's were far away and when I came back basically ALL of my house was gone, not 1 block was left, they left my chests with nothing in them.
We did later find out who did it and my friend reset my house to before the griefing, so if this comes out in 1.8 I'll be happy.
Well I doubt it would be out any time soon. I'm considering breaking it into three blocks, one for the message function, one for the spawn function, and one for the moving function. I think that would make it a bit easier to code in, at the cost of 2 block IDs. I wonder how easy it would be to randomly generate this if we ever do get the Adventure Mode.
