What about using blocks to make materials REALLY durable, like 9X more durable? Tools, Armor, etc. For anyone who doesn't know, you use 9 ingots to make an ore block.

I actually like that idea, but 9 times more durable seems a little excessive. Maybe twice or three times as durable? I rarely need blocks to extremely durable, but that's just me.

Well you need 9 ingots to make armor, so 9X seems reasonable to me.

But that would be extremely OP. Since there is no alternative, something like 2/3x is a good idea.

I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to death, Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works

You have a point. I like 2-4X better.
You get a iron block, replace all of them with gold, diamond or lapis la... Okay I do not know how to spell, and you get those blocks.
I know, but crafting with these would be cool in my opinion. That's what the thread is about.
