I was thinking that perhaps it may be nice if Notch added winds to the game, although hopefully they would actually be somewhat common.
Description: (Thank you very much, TheBlueRocky )
There is a north, south, east, and west wind. At one moment east could be the strongest and west wind isn't even occurring. For example:
North: 3
West: 1
East: 5
South: 0
The wind is pretty much:
Pushes you north at strength 3.
Pushes you east at strength 4.
If the winds were much stronger, you could notice a force moving you. The strength slowly changes over time. If two opposite directions are the same, it's as if they are both at 0.
You can craft a sailboat like this:
Wool is wool, and wood is a boat.
A sailboat's speed is increased or decreased by the wind. If the wind is stronger going north and south and you are going south, against the wind, the sailboat will move slower. If you go north, into the wind, you will go faster. A sailboat IS faster than boat at normal.
You can detect the winds with a weather vein, crafted like this:
The weather vein is 2D and looks like the chicken mob. It will point in the direction of the wind. A weather vein can only be placed on top of a block.
When two winds of opposite forces get high enough, about 20, that's when tornadoes begin to form. They are bunch of wind particles effects that spiral upwards, showing a tornado. A tornado will throw items and mobs into the air, usually causing the mobs to plummet to their death. Tornadoes can grow bigger, even up to the top of the world. The stronger they are, the easier they can destroy blocks. Any blocks in their path will be destroyed using their blast resistance versus the tornado's strength. Knowing this, an obsidian storm shelter can save you.
NOTE:Tell me what you think about tornadoes destroying blocks, I wanna know if everyone is would be ok with that
If a huge tornado hits you and throws you up above the top of the world and down to ground and die, your items will scatter, probably getting thrown back into the tornado to be sent elsewhere. This makes tornadoes possibly the worst form of death.
When wind gets high enough, it can form a storm. Even higher is a thunderstorm. It will eventually form tornadoes. Once the wind reaches at least 35, a hurricane can form. Hurricanes can be seen from the highest altitude. They are about 100x100 chunks large, so they are nearly impossible to escape. Hurricanes spawn tornadoes like mad, so you better go hide in your obsidian storm shelter immediately.
Hurricanes will last for about 1 day and 1 night. Sleeping through a hurricane will not get rid of it.
Winds would occur like weather, as I said before, it may be nicer if they were common no matter what. Here is what winds would do:
Move weather along like in real life.
You could use them to move blocks that arent connected to the rest of the world, or maybe Notch could also make sails that you can change the direction of, that way you can sort of move in any way you want if you can get the hang of adjusting youre sail.
What about clouds? Wind would always have to go North for clouds to always go North. I just think it would be weird for clouds to go North while there is wind blowing South.
Thanks Dan The Minecrafter, for pointing this out.
Winds would also make the clouds move in their direction.
With or without sails, I simply feel that it would be very nice if we could have winds to move weather around, and if they could be used in some way for travel, it would be nice if you could steer and move creations such as ships and blimps, that kind of thing.
Tell me what you think, and thanks for reading! :smile.gif:

Good point, I will add that they could make clouds move too. :laugh.gif:

Sorry to be rude, but it's actually an act of helpfulness if you expand upon someone's suggestion. I hope this is what you were thinking. :smile.gif:

Wow.Just, wow. This is GREAT!!! But, im not sure about tornadoes destroying blocks, it may be a little too destructive...
As for the sailboat, yes, I like that idea alot, but I was thinking it would also be really cool if we could use wind to move things that arent actually vehicles, like, I build a big ship and I wanna move it, I can use this, still, just wow.
With youre permition, id like to label the tornadoe as optional.
Still, very nice, im very glad you came up with this :smile.gif:

i dont fully support this idea ,it would be annoying if you are being followed by creepers and then the wind pushes you to the creepers , and SSSS BOOM

, But this is nice... but would be annoying...
Well, in most cases the wind isnt going to be blowing too strongly, so just...dont get chased by creepers in a storm or something...

Well, im glad you say so! :biggrin.gif:

But how will I find North now? :sad.gif: Just kidding. I can just use the Sun and moon. Still clouds are important for direction finding.
Hmm, very true, although, since we still would have the sun and moon, it couldnt be that much of a problem, could it? :huh.gif:
