Let's face it-- farming's dumb. Sure bread is cool, but pork is easier to get and heals more, even uncooked. I don't have the time or patience to make one of those gigantic farms with 10,000 soil blocks; I like these ideas more:
1. Wheat
PROBLEMS:Whet is so slow! You'd might as well wait for a pig to wander along and kill it--you get the whole food instead of 1/3 of the recipe. Bone meal is kind of pointless in this area-- you only get 1/3 of the finished product, and it only heals 2 1/2 hearts. Doing the math, we know you have 10 hearts. 2 1/2 is 1/4 of 10. Let's say every skeleton we encounter gives two bones, ergo 1 skeleton=6 bone meal. Not bad, but let's remember some skeles only drop 1, if any, bones. Anyway, if we have enough seeds, 6 bone meals will be enough to "insta-grow" 2 breads, healing 5 hearts in all. All in all, you need to kill 2 skeles to insta-grow enough bread to heal all your HP if you have 2 1/2 hearts or less.
SOLUTIONS:
Make it different! I think that by crafting a single wheat, you get bread dough. Cook the dough for bread! Easy as that, folks! Plus, it needs slightly more healing power, probably 3 1/2 hearts rather than 2 1/2. If the method of making it remains, it needs to heal even more, around 4 hearts in my opinion.
2. Pumpkins
PROBLEMS: You can't farm them, and all you can do is make them into jack-o-lanterns or wear them as a helmet.
SOLUTIONS: I think Notch was going to implement them. Anyway, they should be able to be made into Pumpkin Pie, like cake, but a pumpkin instead of an egg. It places like a cake, but it has eight slices that heal 2 hearts per use.
3. Apples
PROBLEMS: Only found in dungeons, can't be farmed.
SOLUTIONS: Apples should come from apple trees, which are really just half-sized trees, more like a bush. They have a 6.25% chance (same as normal trees) of yielding a sapling, and 20% chance of yielding an apple. You can only get an apple or sapling from destroying apple tree leaves.
4. Herbs
PROBLEMS: They don't exist ingame!
SOLUTIONS: Add them! Different herbs can have different effects: faster movement, higher jumping, faster destroying blocks, reduced damage. All the effects are short-lived--not permanent.
5. Melons
PROBLEMS: They also don't exist ingame!
SOLUTIONS: Add them! Melons should be grown like pumpkins (however Notch plans to do it). The melon is eaten like cake. Melons, when destroyed, drop a melon block to be moved around. However, a melon has a chance of dropping 1-2 seeds instead of a melon, which can be farmed.
6. Flowers
PROBLEMS: Can't be farmed.
SOLUTION: When they are destroyed, there's a 6.25% chance (1/16) of getting flower seeds with your flower. Flower seeds can be planted on normal dirt or grass, as long as it's in sufficient light (level 10?). It turns into a flower in the same time it takes wheat to go to the first phase beyond newly-planted.
7. Cucumbers
PROBLEMS: Again, they don't exist ingame!
SOLUTIONS: Add them! They should be farmed like wheat, and can be turned into pickles by being crafted with pickle brine. I don't know how to make that yet, though.
8. Salad
PROBLEMS: It doesn't exist!
SOLUTION: ADD IT! Salad needs a cucumber, seeds, and a melon. It places like a cake, and has 3 servings, each with 2 1/2 hearts.
THAT'S IT, THANKS FOR READING! :biggrin.gif::D:D:D
I love you.
I have always wanted to make a big farming thing, but the only thing I can farm is Sugar Cane and Wheat, turn it to bread and place it in a chest, as well as the Sugar Cane.
Again, I love you.
I support.
could of sworn they said in the next update the is going to be more farming options.
I'm just suggesting things Notch should change to help make farming interesting. Pumpkins still sound useless, and wheat still seems stupid. I wanted to be a farmer when I discovered Minecraft had farming. Biggest. Disappointment. EVER! Wheat is the only thing you can really FARM right now, and I hope to see more! :biggrin.gif:
