After playing an ingenious mod (Adventure Craft), I realised that alot of the things in it made it feel like an adventure game inside Minecraft. And what's this news about a 1.8? Adventure update you say? Well then, I must suggest a few things!
2 New item slots - Similiar to the armour slots, these would be located probably on the oposite side of the player but before the crafting grid in the inventory GUI, but that doesn't look very good with the current model, so I made 2 new ones-
So the first one is the Off Hand Item slot. Here you would place items that would appear - Off Hand, in the players left hand. In other words, dual wielding. Of course, only certain items could be placed here, such as lanterns, torches, and shields. So now you can go adventuring with a sword in one hand and a light source in the other! Or dual firece monsters, but with the protection of a shield!
Just a few things about the shield and light sources, they are all made out of either wood, iron, gold, or diamond, and they take damage that would be inflicted to the front of your body. Of course, when you swing with a sword or another item, the shield is lowered, making you vulnerable. You can also be hit on the back/sides. As for the light sources, anything that produces light would produce light (duh), but it would not be a lot, so having a lantern would make much more sense.
As for the other slot, I call it the Arrow Count Slot - or the ammo slot. This is where you place your arrows that you wish to fire. This disables spamming arrows like crazy and enables the use of different arrows, such as bomb, fire, and ice arrows, which is something I think everyone wants (Kudos to you Risugami).
Also, right after finishing the post, another idea struck me. Why have 2? If you just had one, it would make switching beetween a bow-and-arrow and sword-and a-shield much harder, meaning on the battle field you would have to choose a class. So here's the alternative - The Off Hand Item Slot, I'm not sure where it would be located, but you could only put arrows, shields, and light sources in it. So now you can't hold a shield and a bow. This idea makes more sense if you ask me.
Anyway, thanks for reading my long-ass boring dumb idea post. If you like it or think it could be improved, please leave a comment stating so.
I've never seen another post quite like mine, if you do see one though please post the link.
And I guess if there are multiple posts on one suggest it must be a godd idea, right?
...except for all the guns/planes/space posts,..
That does sound like a plausible and logical way of doing it, but like the guy above stated, the placement is a little misplaced. Sometimes having a lantern to hold helps since I hate always have to have a bunch of torches just to explore a cave network, only to go back when I run out of them.
I don't like the idea of having to "equip" the offhand. Do you equip the main hand? No you don't.
The AdventureCraft mod gave you the ability to have 2 hands and hold any item in each hand, which isn't very plausable in the real minecraft world, I mean, running around dual wielding bows? Or Swords?
I know it's Minecraft, but we have to make it at least a little realistic, plus how would block placement work?
Notch doesnt want to put a mobile light source into Mine Craft. You will also have to explain more about the shields, how many hearts would it protect? How would it be crafted? we need more detail.
