The concept of oil is a very interesting topic. You would find oil in random 1 block tall caverns. Oil would move somewhat like lava, but have a very dark brown texture. There would be 2 ways to mine oil, this introduces new blocks.
Pipes: Pipes would look somewhat like fence posts, except made of metal
The pipes would have to be attached to a well (see 2nd block for details) to pump oil and water. You would craft 4 pipes like this.
if you were to dig straight down and find an oil reserve, you would build pipes straight up the mineshaft into a well, then pipes leading from the well into a barrel (see 3rd block for details). You could do the same with water and make a bath of some sort. :laugh.gif:
Well: a well would be a pump placed anywhere along a pipeline to carry oil and water through the pipes. A well would be crafted like this = piston
The pump would have to be operated with a lever on the side: up=on down=off
Then you would have to attach more pipes to the well so it gets to the barrel.
Barrels: Barrels would look like an iron block with a hole in the top. If you were to put a barrel beside another it would connect those barrels. You could actually get in these barrels because they are hollow!.
The final way you could get oil is with a bucket, but that wouldn't really be exciting now, would it?
Oil would last longer than coal and lava in a furnace. Also you could get oil from any unit of oil, not just the source. Oil could also be used to power future modes of transportation in minecraft!
Thank you for your time!

I would have to agree.Your system seem horribly inefficient for the payoff. the coal+water idea would be easier or maybe you would need to craft a special tool to make the oil. Probably the best idea for an efficient fuel source was nethercoal from the better than wolves mod.you combine coal and netherrack and it last twice as long as coal.simple and efficient.

most of the game of minecraft is challenging and this is too.

I like this idea, but we do not need the whole thing with craftable pipes and stuff.
I propose that oil would be able to be gotten with a bucket, and would last for about 16X per bucket of oil, but the bucket wouldn't be used up.
Instead, since the oil would come in big lakes, you would make it so that pistons could push the oil, that way people could make pipes, and pump the oil up with a piston.
If your going to make oil, pipes are useless. It may as well be a fluid like water, and found in 1 tall springs underground, most likely under deserts. Then, you just make a pipe with blocks instead of crafting a useless item.
However, I don't really like the idea of oil anyway, but, since you like it, I would advise doing what I said.

instead you could just make a bucket of lava.
and it would be much easier to put coal and bucket of water in crafting to make oil.
well coal wouldn't burn as long as oil.

The piston would push the oil upwards.
