An Animus (an-ih-mus, plural Animi) are helper (mostly fighting) mobs that can be easily captured. Capturing a wild Animus tames it, and tamed Animi cannot be tamed by others.
Animi come in several species:
Squig
Grot
Goblin
Kreat
Gret
Squig: A short, stout beast, which is mostly a large head and two legs. The Squig is entirely used for combat, either by sending them loose or by mounting Grots on them. Squigs have a large mouth with many razor sharp teeth. They charge at any enemy they see when set loose.
Health: 5
Damage: 2
Receives: N/A
Grot: A small, red-skinned goblin-like creature. They are more aggressive than Goblins, and will only take weapons as tools. They can be mounted on Squigs. They are best used in large numbers, as they are not very strong on their own.
Health: 5
Damage: 1, variable
Receives: Swords, Axes, Armor
Goblin: A small, green skinned creature. They are smart enough to use any tool. They will mine, chop down trees, or gather wheat and sugar cane if given the appropriate tool. They are weak on their own, but in large groups are quite effective.
Health: 4
Damage: 1
Receives: Swords, Axes, Shovels, Hoes, Picks, Armor
Kreat: A short, bird-like animal with an up-turned raptor jaw. They are strong, and are good skirmishers. They cannot use most tools, though they will use swords and bows. They are effective skirmishers, but not to be used to fight large battles alone.
Health: 6
Damage: 2
Receives: Swords, Bows, Armor
Gret: A blue version of the Grot, Grets are less aggressive than their cousin. They are weaker, but are smarter, being able to use Bows. They are best used as archers. They can also mount wolves to be used as cavalry. Unlike Kreats, they are best used as large groups of Archers.
Health: 5
Damage: 1
Receives: Swords, Bows, Armor
Most are only useful for fighting, but are able to be used for large offensives against rival clans, as currently, even large servers could not reach the amount of fighters in 1 battle as you could after spending a while capturing Animi. To capture Animi, you must create a net, like so: =String
Just an FYI: There are lots of Animi that spawn everywhere, much more than any other mob.

WOOT! MORE SHOOTY STUFF!
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens. (Griefing is an art. And a lot of dead creepers.)
So you want wolves with different attacks, basically?
Kind of, but you'll have more of them. My main though was this: A huge server (several hundred people on it). Everyone divides up, creating cities and nations. Then, resources grow low. Some nations resort to trading, others resort to violence. With Animus, you'd be able to go from little raids to full-scale wars.
I'm not quite sure I like the idea of creating animals to help you.
You don't create them, you capture them.
