I was thinking about a new block today: River Water! Instead of flowing only 12 blocks, it flows forever or until it hits a dead end, and still flows down blocks without flooding your entire world if you use it wrong - unlike Ocean Water from the Finite Water mod. This would be very good for looks of the already beautiful Minecraft landscape and could also be used for long trenches for watering any plants with ease. If it goes into a loop and catches itself from behind, it may turn into a spring. It probably should not "spawn" underground; only at a certain block height. There could even be two or three types - slow, normal, and fast-moving, or just slow and fast-moving - for variety and danger. So basically, it's regular water without the flowing length limits. Well, just an idea.
Real rivers also go downhill, usually, since gravity pulls them down. They wouldn't get too far if they just went straight. So I think the way it is now is actually quite realistic (well, it makes sense, at least). Having two or more types of water would get confusing.
It's realistic that water only flows down, but rivers flow on slopes so gradual that in Minecraft terms, they may as well be flat. That said, I don't think that this suggestion would work very well. For one thing, a river block could easily get out of hand.
"Riverbed blocks" will not 'absorb' water when it passes over them (the level will not decrease when it passes on top of them), allowing the world to have very long rivers, by placing them from a mountain to a lake or ocean, and players to make artificial rivers.
What blocks could act as riverbeds? Mainly those that wold usually not let water pass through. Those that are compact and without cracks in the top surface, like stone, clay or obsidian, and several crafted ones: glass, iron, gold, diamond, lapis lazuli. Maybe even adding a 'riverbed' block based on the dirt block, that is created after a high-level water current passes over a dirt block for a long time, or when a source of water is directly on top of it for a long time, and digging this riverbed will just generate a dirt block.
Awesome!

The Sun rises in the North! Now these points of data make a beautiful line...
The way it is right now its good enough but doesnt makes perfect sense , finite water mod does perfect sense...
and as i said just now , the way it is now its good enough so a 2nd water is not needed.
Awesome!
