Hello! I was just reading some random topic about how blocks should break when squeezing them between two pistons, and came up with a BRILLIANT idea! I thought about how spikes might be implemented into 1.8 for traps. If you aren't familiar with it, here's a brief explenation: When a mob (or you) touches spikes, it/you takes damage. If pushed by a piston into the mob or you, it/you takes damage in the same way. (That's just an educated guess, though)
So I thought, if you place spikes on the end of a piston and activate it, the spiked piston would turn blocks into their item form. Here's a diagram:
= Block = Spike = Piston
If the piston in that diagram were activated , it would push the spike into the block and break it into item form.
Thinking about this a bit, I thought it would make some items too easy to break. For example, you find obsidian and have pistons and spikes in your inventory so you just quickly set them up to break the obsidian in a couple seconds. Same with ores... The obvious thing to do would to have the spiked pistons not be able to break ores, obsidian, and some other blocks that would be unfair to break easily. It would be able to break common and refined materials, however, like dirt or cobblestone.
Imagine the possibilities for factories! So yeah, there's mah post. Do your worst. :tongue.gif:
TL;DR: Spike blocks pushed by pistons turn blocks into items.
Waaaaaaay too OP. This is similar to the suggestion that people want the crushing functions for pistions. If you were to make a cobble generator that pushed the blocks out and had it run into spikes, it's be raining cobble. Not to mention this will entirely negate the need for the diamond pickaxe. You're using non-durable items (piston, spikes (I'm assuming) and a lever or button) in place of an itme that has durability. I think the only ways to break blocks should be the gravel/sand torch trick, TNT/Creepers, and not being lazy and digging it yourself.

I don't see the outrage over unlimited cobblestone. I already have unlimited cobblestone in the form of two double chests full of cobble. At a certain point in the game cobble is meaningless.
That said, it would pretty much be the only use of this.

I get what you mean about cobble being as meaningless as dirt, but you still have to dig for dirt. I don't think you should be allowed to turn a machine on and let the cobble just roll in. There should at least be a little effort put foth.

Me neither, I just guessed, lol. Thanks for the support!

I'm all for it! Seems like it should come along with the upcoming 1.8 update.
That would work! Iron is getting a bit TOO useful, I suppose.
