iv been talking to people i know that play in multy player servers and they always tell me how annoing it is when people take there stuff from there chest. so if notch could add the ability to make chest look like normal block that will be great. example: put dirt in the crafting table in the shape of a chest and put a chest in the middle and you got a dirt chest. this will also be for all blocks in minecraft or you can just make invizible chest so tell me what you think
Use pistons
Use paintings
Use code locks
All of those do what you described. Pistons can lock chests and hide them behind blocks, paintings can hide chests, code locks can be used to keep things...well...locked.

This sounds like something you'll find in a mod but never in Minecraft. If anything a key will seem more reasonable. Only the maker of the key can use it, so it wouldn't be like someone can just lock pick by making there own. This can also add a useful use for gold.
I Actually think I like the challange of hiding stuff in my chests. I Found some ways to hide things :smile.gif: not telling any of my ways but just try placing them out of sight and stuff.
there are a ton of SMP mods that will solve this problem
And in vanilla survival servers well , its survival , so be aware of thieves , i normally dig 20 blocks underground , then i make a mini maze , in the end of the maze i dig 10 blocks down again and i put my chest there... yeah , people have stealed by stuff tons of times , and now i am really serious with chest hiding , REALLY SERIUS.
The key idea is smart. I personally think that a combination that is plugged into the chest during chest design by the builder is a good idea. That way, only the person who made the chest should know the password. Or, just make it so that the crafter of the chest is the only one that can open it.
